Four players. Four clubs. One very unusual fall baseball league.

Inspired by the earliest days of base ball and vintage tobacco cards, the Harvest League Champions bring together baseball, Thanksgiving folklore, and a little bit of nonsense from The Craftsman’s Works.

They say the Harvest League played its season after the big clubs had packed away their uniforms for winter.

The fields weren't much to look at. Outfield fences disappeared into corn rows. Autumn leaves covered the base paths. And the crowds didn't arrive until the harvest was finished.

But the competition was fierce.

There was a catcher from Plymouth whose playing weight became increasingly difficult to determine after Thanksgiving dinner. A scarecrow who guarded the infield as well as the crops. A pumpkin-headed slugger with tremendous power. And a center fielder who could supposedly cross an acre before a fly ball touched the earth.

Whether the Harvest League actually existed is probably best left to the historians.

Fortunately, the cards survived.

The Harvest League Champions were created in the spirit of the baseball cards, lithographs, scorecards, and illustrations that helped turn the earliest ballplayers into legends.

Only these players come from somewhere between baseball history and Thanksgiving folklore.
