The Power of Glove Salve: Protect, Restore, and Condition Your Leather Gear
At The Craftsman's Works, we take pride in creating products that go above and beyond. Our Glove Salve is a perfect example—handmade in the USA with all-natural ingredients, this conditioner is designed to protect, restore, and condition your leather gear. While it's fantastic for baseball and softball gloves, its benefits extend to any leather item exposed to the elements.
Versatile & Effective for More Than Just Gloves
Glove Salve isn’t limited to just gloves and mitts. It’s been trusted for leather boots, furniture, shoes, cleats, wallets, purses, and much more. Whether your leather item is exposed to harsh weather or everyday wear, Glove Salve helps it maintain its quality for years to come.
How to Use Glove Salve
- Clean your leather thoroughly to remove dirt, buildup, or other contaminants. Make sure the leather is dry before applying the conditioner.
- Apply a small amount of Glove Salve to a lint-free cloth or directly to your fingers. Rub it into the leather in small circular motions until fully coated.
- Buff with a dry cloth to remove excess conditioner once absorbed.
- Let it dry for an hour, and reapply as needed. Stop once the leather no longer absorbs the conditioner, and wipe away any excess.
- Let it cure for 24 hours to ensure maximum effectiveness.
Best Practices, Tips, and Tricks for Using Glove Salve
- Always clean leather and allow it to dry before applying conditioner.
- Apply by hand for a more natural process—your body heat will help the conditioner absorb into the leather more easily.
- Use a hair dryer or heat gun on a low setting (8”+ away from the leather) to encourage the conditioner to melt and penetrate deeper, but be cautious of overheating the leather.
- For dry, cracked, or faded leather that hasn't been treated in a while, 2-5 applications may be needed for full restoration. For newer or well-maintained leather, 1-3 applications should suffice.
- Conditioning frequency can range from once a month to just a few times a year, depending on the leather’s exposure to the elements and general wear.
- Regular conditioning is the key to maintaining the longevity and functionality of leather. Proper care means your leather items will last much longer and remain strong over time.
- Darkening may occur with medium to light-colored leather, though this effect will lessen over time. Always test in a hidden area before full application.
- Storage matters: Keep leather items in a dark, dry place, away from direct sunlight, moisture, and damaging substances like salt.
Please Note: Glove Salve is not suitable for nubuck, suede, or other non-smooth leathers. While our conditioners can work on these materials, they require extra care and expertise.
Why Glove Salve Works
Our Glove Salve is made from food-grade, natural ingredients, which are safe for use around children and pets. Seed oils are used instead of nut or tree oils to minimize the risk of allergic reactions. Should any product be ingested, there is no danger to children or pets.
Benefits of Conditioning Leather with Glove Salve:
- Restores leather: Minor scratches, fading, and damage often heal with proper conditioning. The introduction of animal fats restores the leather to its natural state, healing small imperfections.
- Waterproofs leather: Triple-filtered beeswax bonds deeply with leather fibers, providing excellent waterproofing that shields against most light to moderate liquid damage.
- Protects leather: Regular conditioning makes leather more resilient against liquids, spills, sunlight, abrasions, scratches, and wear and tear. Well-maintained leather is much more durable and resistant to damage.
- Enhances appearance: A well-conditioned leather item will develop a beautiful patina over time, building character and adding to its timeless appeal. The more you care for your leather, the better it looks.
At The Craftsman's Works, we believe in the power of natural care for your leather items. By using Glove Salve, you can protect, restore, and extend the life of all your leather gear. So whether it’s a glove, boots, or a favorite leather couch, give it the attention it deserves with Glove Salve.
